Welcome to Music, Choir and Band!
CLASS THEME: JOY MAKERS
Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Psalm 95:1
As “Joy Makers” in the music classroom, Sheldon Christian School music program strives to glorify God through the use of the musical gifts that He has given to us. Our aim is to honor God through exploring the creativity and beauty of music and sharing that joy with others. We offer music classes to students in grades Kindergarten - 8th grade including: General Music for Kindergarten - 5th grade along with 5th grade Band, 6th - 8th grade Band and Choir. 7th-8th Grade Honor Band
- This Honor Band consists of students who have been accepted by auditioning, which involves memorizing scales and playing short excerpts. The auditions are held in Storm Lake on a Saturday in October with a continued rehearsal and performance given on the 1st Saturday in November at Dordt University. Selected participate in a large group with the best instrumental students in northwest Iowa. The primary focus is to present the best musical performances/experiences in an atmosphere where the students learn the value of dedication, discipline, teamwork, and pride while having fun and participating in an event they will remember. This event is sponsored by the NW IBA (Northwest Iowa Band Association).
Solo/Ensembles
- Students have the opportunity to perform a solo or in a small group in front of an encouraging individual who is skilled in instrumental performance. Students are asked to perform 1x during their 6-8 experience, but encouraged to be involved yearly.
At Sheldon Christian music is expressed not only in the music classroom but also in other areas. The classroom teachers in Preschool - 2nd grade and 3rd - 5th grade gather weekly and the Preschool - 8th grade meet monthly for a time of praise and worship all together. The students also use all musical areas at the school's month chapels.
