Welcome to Sheldon Christian School!

Welcome to Sheldon Christian School, a private, nondenominational school that has been striving to offer children a distinctively God-centered education since 1917. Why? Because generations of the school’s community continue to believe that it is of vital importance that every child knows that he or she is created in God’s image and, as God’s image bearers, they are called to grow in their knowledge of him and his vast creation, living out his command to serve him as they serve others. As per the school’s mission statement, Sheldon Christian School prepares children for a lifetime of kingdom service by providing quality God-centered education. 

The belief that all aspects of a child’s education must be seen through the lens of scripture is a key element of the school’s application of its view of the world in which we live. From math to music, art to acting, reading to recess, lunch to life skills, all instruction–curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular–acknowledges the lordship of Jesus Christ and is therefore foundational to the training of our children, his disciples.  

Sheldon Christian School has always operated within the belief that it exists to partner with parents, the child’s primary teachers, as well as the church to encourage the intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth of every student. Believing that every child is God’s image bearer, the school offers a well-rounded curriculum in classrooms where teachers strive to meet every child’s unique needs and enable them to realize their full potential. 

Sheldon Christian School teachers are certified by the State of Iowa. Sheldon Christian School is accredited by Christian Schools International as authorized and recognized by the State of Iowa. Christian Schools International (CSI) accreditation provides a framework for Sheldon Christian School to evaluate academic programs and ensure that we are meeting high academic standards aligned with a Christian worldview. CSI’s accreditation process involves a thorough self-assessment, external consultation, and ongoing accountability, verifying the school's commitment to strategic improvement and excellence. 

Sheldon Christian School serves children in grades pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Approximately 135 children comprise the school’s current enrollment. The school’s board of education continues to implement annual budgets and offer financial support designed to make enrollment affordable for families who want to provide their children with a God-centered education.
